Uncovering Essence

Sumanasa-3RTWithin every person resides essential virtues that once uncovered lead to a joyful, healthy and meaningful life.

The path to this brilliant and indestructible gem requires a deep exploration of all three inseparable and interdependent sources of our expression in this world: the body, the mind and the heart.

Through the practices of classical Hatha Yoga and  psychotherapy one can begin to gently chip away at the conditions that conceal their true nature and reveal the profound and powerful process of being that lies beneath.

Psychotherapy4Yogis… why?

While the purpose of Yoga is the expansion of consciousness beyond all suffering, many yoga practitioners still struggle with their basic psychology.  This is mainly due to the commercialization of public classes, which have toppled the sacred and transformative aspects of the practice.

Large, sweaty classes are not inherently a negative thing, since physical yoga offers a multitude of benefits, including exercise and stress reduction.  Unfortunately however, this approach to yoga not only has little to no impact on healing the mind, but ironically, can actually exacerbate the very same psycho-emotional issues that more traditional yoga so effectively heals.

Why?

Simply put, public yoga classes retain enough of Yoga’s magical alchemy to begin to connect us to the more subtle aspects of our being (thoughts, feelings, memories, dreams, emotions, etc.), but without proper direction these energies can lead to greater tension and conflict within ourselves, often resulting in symptoms of emotional reactivity, depression, anxiety and difficulty in our relationships, just to name a few.

There is much value in the yoga movement and I would very rarely suggest to a practitioner to terminate or even modify their involvement.  However, for those who are seeking a more psychologically and spiritually whole life path, psychotherapy geared towards yoga practitioners can be very complimentary in learning how to take one’s yoga practice “off the mat” and into their lives.
